This was another beautiful weather day and Mairi and I went for a walk up the hill behind her house. The view when we reached the top of one of the hills was spectacular. We sat and talked for awhile and said our good-byes since I would not see her and Donald on Saturday when I was set to leave for Harris.
I waited until late to head off to the Callanish standing stones which are older than Stonehenge! I had visited them twice before but always at the wrong time of day to capture any good photos. So my self-styled mission was to go at the end of the day – mind you, sunset was going to be at 9:50 PM! It was well worth the effort as I was able to capture the stones as silhouettes as well as with the late light bathing them in a golden glow. They still present a mystery as no one truly knows why they were erected and who masterminded the whole scheme. There is a magic emanating from them – and no, touching them did not bring me back to another century! I remained firmly rooted in the twenty first century, much to my dismay.
Tomorrow it’s off to Harris and I hate to leave Uig behind as this is truly a unique place in the Hebrides. I am leaving new found friends who enriched my time here more than I could have imagined.
