I left my cottage in Benbecula on Thursday and headed down to Eriskay for the last 5 days of my journey. My main reason for coming to the Hebrides was to spend a few days on Eriskay and photograph the ponies and the people who manage them. When I was here in June the ponies were up over the hill and difficult to find. We had tried with a small group to hike up the hill to search for them but had no luck – though we did see them in a pasture in town with the help of Triona who is my contact for this visit as well. In the winter the ponies are brought back into the area around the village and much to my delight I came across a small group of them coming up the road by my cottage when I arrived. As the sun was marginally peeking out from the clouds I was able to get a few photos though I need far more! As a major storm was heading to Scotland I knew I would not have much chance of photographing today and I was right! I walked around for a few minutes and took a few photos of the road near my house but my little sojourn didn’t last long as the storm came in with force and I have been confined to the cottage ever since. This has been billed as a storm of the century and it appears that central Scotland has taken the worst of it. All trains have been cancelled, many ferry crossings cancelled as well as flights in and out of Edinburgh and Heathrow. We are still very windy and rainy but so far no power outages. We will see what tomorrow brings.
