Islay

It was off to Islay this morning on the ferry from Kennacraig.  I have stayed on this beautiful island before and was anxious to get back.  Our accommodations are just amazing – we have an entire cottage to ourselves and it sits out in an open area looking out across Loch Lindahl toward Bowmore. After hotel rooms with twin beds and small bathrooms we now have a 3 bedroom house with two bathrooms including one with an amazing deep bathtub!  A perfect way to spend the end of our trip.  We will be here for five days before heading back to Edinburgh via Stirling.

The main reason Islay is on my list for this project is Finlaggan, the ancient seat of the Lords of the Isles.  Finlaggan was the headquarters for the kingdom for almost 200 years.  We walked around Finlaggan late in the day and you could feel the energy of the Lords of the Isles.  We will be back here again with a member of the Finlaggan Trust who will help us understand what we are seeing when walking through the ruins.  Meanwhile, these pictures should give you a feel for this magical place.
